{"id":548,"date":"2018-04-16T15:13:58","date_gmt":"2018-04-16T15:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/travels.x10.bz\/wp\/?p=548"},"modified":"2022-07-08T19:32:42","modified_gmt":"2022-07-08T23:32:42","slug":"springtime-in-northern-greece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travel.woodring.us\/wordpress\/2018\/04\/16\/springtime-in-northern-greece\/","title":{"rendered":"Springtime in Northern Greece!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two years ago we made our first trip to Greece and loved it!\u00a0 The country is beautiful, the food is great, the people are lovely, and each region is varied with lots to see and do.\u00a0 For those reasons and more, we&#8217;re heading for the less traveled part of Greece&#8211;the North.\u00a0 This time, we&#8217;re skipping Athens and checking out the regions of Thessaly, Epiros, and Macedonia.\u00a0 This <em>Lonely Planet<\/em> map shows some of the major cities in Greece but not all that we plan to see.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/maps\/europe\/greece\/map_of_greece.jpg\" alt=\"Map of Greece\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We depart on Monday, April 16 and return on Thursday, May 10.\u00a0 If all goes well, we should arrive in Thessaloniki by 6:30 a.m. Atlanta-time on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Our itinerary is tentative by design so that we have flexibility.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll be visiting cities, and villages in the mountains, seaside, and on the lakefront.\u00a0 Most are new to us and many we&#8217;ve never heard of!\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what we have so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thessaloniki<\/strong> (3 nights)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kastoria<\/strong> (2 nights)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Metsovo<\/strong> (2 nights)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ioannina<\/strong> (3 nights)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Affisos<\/strong> (2 nights)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rest of our plan is open.\u00a0 The possibilities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pella<\/strong> (the birthplace of\u00a0 Alexander the Great)<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Pelion region<\/strong> (for hiking and great views of the Aegean Sea)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Litochoro<\/strong> (for Mt.
