Just one reason we love visiting Greece is the food – salads and seafood served in tavernas by the sea. \u00a0But also, as a travel destination, it has so many treasures, and every time we visit, we find new and interesting places to explore. For this trip, we\u2019re going to the Ionian Islands<\/strong>. The most famous island in this group is Corfu, but because of the logistics of getting there, we will skip it to focus on the island of Kefalonia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We will fly directly from Atlanta to Athens and after a short layover, we\u2019ll take a one hour flight on Aegean Airlines to the port town of Argostoli<\/b>. While on the island, we will have a rental car and this plan will give us a base for exploring north, south, east, and west. Our itinerary for the island:<\/p>\n

Argostoli – \u00a05 nights
\nPoros – 3 nights
\n<\/span>Fiscardo – 4 nights
\n<\/span>Sami – 4 nights<\/span><\/p>\n

From Sami, we\u2019ll take a ferry to Patras to spend 4 nights; and then to Athens for our last 3 nights in Greece.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re adding Lyon, France to this itinerary – also for the food. We love the weekend market there so we have reserved a small apartment as a base to try the cheeses, wines, and other dishes that Lyon is famous for.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our flight leaves soon and if all goes well, we should be in Argostoli by Tuesday morning. You are welcome to follow along – check back here as we\u2019ll post a photo or two every few days.<\/p>\n
