It\u2019s a rainy day so a good one for visiting the Museo Archeologico\u00a0<\/strong>in Fano – it\u2019s set in a lovely palace that was built in the 1420\u2019s. \u00a0In addition to archeological findings from the region, there are several works of art. \u00a0The gallery is very pleasant space with many large works displayed.<\/p>\n

We liked the very busy Annunciation<\/i>\u00a0by a local 16th-century artist Domenico Sacchetta – below is just one section of the larger painting but we liked that porticos were painted in this scene.<\/p>\n

The beautiful polyptych (1420) is titled Madonna with Child and Saints<\/i> by a Venetian artist, Michele Giambono.<\/p>\n

This is a sculpture of Heracles Wearing the Nemean Lion Skin;<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a large museum but the collection of art and artifacts is interesting and varied!<\/p>\n

In the center of Fano is Piazza XX Settembre, <\/b>a traditional marketplace with the 16th Century Fontana della Fortuna<\/b>, topped with a bronze statue of Fortuna. \u00a0On the left, is the Teatro della Fortuna<\/b>, where opera and musical performances are held today.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve had some very good seafood food during our stay in Fano;<\/p>\n

The people here are kind but not many speak English. \u00a0It\u2019s been a good way for us to practice our Italian! \u00a0Tomorrow we\u2019ll take the train to the Airport in Ancona to pick up a rental car. \u00a0Then, it\u2019s on to Fermo!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
