We arrived here yesterday after the short drive from Koroni. \u00a0The water is blue-green and clear – it\u2019s too cool for swimming but we imagine that it\u2019s very busy in the summer. \u00a0In the photo below, you can see how the town is clustered around the water.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s popular with sailors. \u00a0We met a man last\u00a0night who just sailed in from Sicily – he lives on his boat and travels all over the world!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Like most other Greek towns we\u2019ve visited, the flowers are beautiful and well loved.<\/p>\n

Pylos is described by Homer in both the Iliad and the Odyssey (Book 17) when Telemachus says: \u00a0\u201dwe went to Pylos and to Nestor\u2026and he received me in his lofty house and gave me a kindly welcome\u2026\u201d \u00a0He\u2019s describing his trip to Nestor\u2019s Palace. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today we drove 30 minutes to the Archeological site of the Palace. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t look like this now but it must have been spectacular in its day. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many important archaeological remains have been found here including thousands of clay tablets with inscriptions written in Linear B. \u00a0It is a really interesting site in a beautiful setting.<\/p>\n

There are lots of blooming olive and fruit trees here – we were surprised that this\u00a0\u00a0is the bloom of a lime tree!<\/p>\n

There is a Castle in Pylos – right above our hotel. Tomorrow we\u2019ll make the trek to the top. \u00a0We\u2019ll be here a couple more days before we go to our last stop on our mini Greek Odyssey\u2026Athens!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
