We\u2019ve just arrived in Thessaloniki to begin<\/span>\u00a0another Greek adventure!\u00a0 \u00a0This one has been rescheduled (from three weeks ago) and we’ve vacillated daily about whether or not to go.\u00a0 Covid case numbers in Greece have been high but they are trending downward.\u00a0 We’ve packed masks, Advil and many Covid test kits just in case, but in the meantime, we’ll be cautious!<\/span><\/p>\n For a large part of our trip, we’ve picked coastal areas in the Peloponnese where we can eat outside in tavernas. \u00a0Even the waiter at the outdoor pizzeria in Thessaloniki where we ate dinner this evening asked to see our vaccination card. \u00a0We realize that we\u2019ll need to carry it with us.<\/p>\n The U.S. dropped the mask mandate on planes the day before we flew here. \u00a0Many on the flight wore masks anyway though some did not including some of the Delta flight attendants. \u00a0The flight crew announced that masks are mandatory in the Athens Airport \u00a0 – we couldn\u2019t leave the plane without one. \u00a0Our cab driver also cautioned us saying that people on public transportation (even taxi cabs) are fined for non-compliance. \u00a0We are happy to comply though some of those rules will change May 1.<\/p>\n Here’s our plan:<\/strong><\/p>\n We flew Atlanta to Athens via JFK, then took a quick flight to Thessaloniki<\/strong>, our first stop.\u00a0 We’ll be here for 5 nights.\u00a0 Then we\u2019ll take a flight back to Athens to pick up a rental car to visit Nafplio<\/strong> for 4 nights.\u00a0 Drive to Gythio<\/strong> for 4 nights.\u00a0 On to Kardymeli<\/strong> for another 4 nights.\u00a0 \u00a0We’ll visit the small village of Koroni<\/strong> for 3 nights, Pylos<\/strong> for 4 nights and then back to Athens<\/strong> for another 4 nights.<\/p>\n This map of the Peloponnese<\/strong> shows some of the smaller towns we’re visiting – it won’t require too much driving between destinations – and that’s a good thing since gas prices are high in Europe too!<\/p>\n This is the week of Greek Orthodox Easter and pastry shops like this one in Thessaloniki are selling lots delicious-looking Easter treats.<\/p>\n We always feel amazed, grateful and a bit lucky when transportation connections work out and all goes according to plan!<\/p>\n Feel free to check back as our plan is to post a few photos every few days.<\/p>\n Best Wishes from Greece!<\/p>\n S & L<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We\u2019ve just arrived in Thessaloniki to begin\u00a0another Greek adventure!\u00a0 \u00a0This one has been rescheduled (from three weeks ago) and we’ve vacillated daily about whether or not to go.\u00a0 Covid case numbers in Greece have been high but they are trending downward.\u00a0 We’ve packed masks, Advil and many Covid test kits just in case, but in … <\/p>\n![\"Greece](\"https:\/\/www.enchantedlearning.com\/europe\/greece\/map\/big.GIF\")
