We go round and round about the best time to eat a meal in Spain – it\u2019s complicated and varies by region. \u00a0Some say that locals don\u2019t eat out often but when they do, for many, \u00a0lunch is the main meal – usually eaten between 1:30 and 4:00. \u00a0 Dinner begins in the \u00a09:00-9:30 timeframe, and even later on weekends – typically a light meal or snack, like tapas.<\/p>\n
To stay with Spanish tradition, today we ate (a big meal) lunch at Taberna Salinas <\/b>which Rick Steves says: \u00a0\u201cseems like a movie set designed to give you the classic Cordoba scene\u201d .<\/p>\nTaberna Salinas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
There was a wait – even on a Thursday afternoon. \u00a0 The menu is printed on a paper placemat and there are many choices – each served one at a time and large enough for sharing. \u00a0We researched before we arrived and ordered:<\/p>\n
Espinacas con Garbanzos;<\/p>\nSpinach with Garbanzo Beans<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Berenjenas Freitas con Miel de Cana;<\/p>\nCrisp Molasses-Drizzled Eggplant<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Rabo de Toro Estofado al Estilo Cardobes (Stewed Oxtail – Cordoban-Style) – not shown, but oxtail meat simmered in a wine, tomato sauce until very tender and delicious.<\/span><\/p>\n
Postres (Dessert – Tarta de Queso):<\/p>\nSpanish Cheesecake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Plus, a three-euro glass of local white wine.<\/p>\nA Happy Patron<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
On the way back to the hotel, we walked through Plaza de las Tendillas in the modern part of the city. \u00a0The square is beautiful with Art Deco-style architecture. \u00a0On a quick trip to Cordoba, it\u2019s possible to miss seeing the newer part of the city.<\/p>\nPlaza de las Tendillas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Cordoba is a great city and we still have a lot more things on our list to explore:<\/p>\n
