This time we&#8217;ll land in <strong>Malta<\/strong> &#8211; an island nation\u00a0 located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. It&#8217;s 93km south of Sicily and 288km east of Tunisia.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d5616133.215572887!2d9.253928137271851!3d35.17890453238159!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x130e45281d8647c5%3A0xf582d86136be4239!2sMalta!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1578875928197!5m2!1sen!2sus\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The map below shows the layout of the islands &#8211; <strong>Malta International Airport<\/strong> is near Luqa,\u00a0 south of the city of Valletta.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d206731.31027865474!2d14.238263402692775!3d35.94264659466548!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x130e45281d8647c5%3A0xf582d86136be4239!2sMalta!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1578875191546!5m2!1sen!2sus\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Our Brandt Guidebook tells us that Malta has the &#8220;greatest density of historic sites of any country in the world&#8221; so there will be\u00a0 lots to explore here!\u00a0 Rather than staying in the capital city <strong>Valletta<\/strong>, we decided to make our home base in <strong>Sliema<\/strong>, with markets, shops, and a popular seafront promenade.\u00a0 While many of the main tourist sites are in Valletta, Sliema is just a short ferry-trip away.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our Itinerary:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lately, we&#8217;ve enjoyed settling into a place so our itinerary is simple &#8211; 18 nights in Sliema and then, we&#8217;ll stop in Ortigia, Sicily for 4 nights.\u00a0 In Sliema, we&#8217;ve rented an apartment at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pebblesaparthotel.com\/\">Pebbles Boutique Aparthotel .<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0In Ortygia, we&#8217;ll stay at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.domusmariaebenessere.com\/\">Albergo Domus Mariae<\/a>.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll end our trip in a hotel near the airport in Catania, Sicily.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malta &#8211; A Few Fast Facts<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Euro is the currency.<\/li>\n<li>Maltese and English are the official languages.<\/li>\n<li>The main religion is Roman Catholic.<\/li>\n<li>The population is 430,000.<\/li>\n<li>Maltese food is influenced by Italy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And, Away We Go!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re excited to explore this new-to-us destination and look forward to revisiting Ortigia, an old favorite!<\/p>\n<p>The flight will take us to Paris and from there it&#8217;s a short flight to Malta.<\/p>\n<p>We hope to have good internet connections along the way and will post every day or so.\u00a0 You&#8217;re welcome to follow along at travel.woodring.us<\/p>\n<p>Sa\u0127\u0127a!
