{"id":1193,"date":"2019-04-16T14:00:23","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T18:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/travel.woodring.us\/?p=1193"},"modified":"2019-04-16T11:28:08","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T15:28:08","slug":"springtime-in-poland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travel.woodring.us\/wordpress\/2019\/04\/16\/springtime-in-poland\/","title":{"rendered":"Springtime in Poland!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been 7 years since we visited any of the Baltic countries.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve long been curious about travel in Poland and decided that it&#8217;s time to check it out!\u00a0 We&#8217;ll spend nearly 3 weeks zigzagging northerly beginning with the <strong>Krakow<\/strong> in the south and ending with <strong>Gdansk<\/strong> in the north.\u00a0 Our plan is to travel by train and bus rather than renting a car.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll use each destination as a base for day trips.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, our flight will take us non-stop from Atlanta to Dusseldorf, Germany where we&#8217;ll have a short layover before we catch a flight (one hour and 45 minutes in length) from Dusseldorf to Krakow.<\/p>\n<p>Our itinerary looks like this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Krakow<\/strong>-5 nights<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Wroclaw<\/strong>-4 nights<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Warsaw<\/strong>-4 nights<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Torun<\/strong>-2 nights<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Gdansk<\/strong>-5 nights<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve reserved hotels in each city.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 466px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/maps\/europe\/poland\/map_of_poland.jpg\" alt=\"Map of Poland\" width=\"466\" height=\"350\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">This map from Lonely Planet shows the major cities in Poland and also the countries that surround it!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be in Krakow for <strong>Easter<\/strong> and <strong>Passover<\/strong> and hope to experience some of the traditions surrounding these holidays.\u00a0 Krakow is majority Catholic (87.2 percent according to Wikipedia) but there is a lively Jewish quarter called Kazimierz.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re especially looking forward to the <strong>Easter Market in Krakow<\/strong> where we&#8217;ve read that wooden stalls in the Market Square sell decorated Easter eggs, baskets, tablecloths, gingerbread hearts, cheeses, sausages, hot spiced wine and\u00a0 much more!<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.inyourpocket.com\/gallery\/238407m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"215\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo from &#8220;In Your Pocket Guide &#8211; Krakow&#8221;.
