Leaving Ljubljana

We were surprised to learn that our first time in Slovenia was 18 years ago. It’s changed a bit but not too much. It’s still a cozy, elegant smallish city with a castle on the hillside.

Ljubljana Castle in the Distance

We took the funicular up to the castle yesterday for a nice view of the city below with some mountains in the distance.

A famous architect, Jože Plečnik designed many of Ljubljana’s landmarks including bridges, the covered market, the University Library.

Ljubljana Bridge

At the daily market (very sweet) grapes are in season.

Ljubljana Market

It’s beginning to look like fall – walks along the Ljubljana River are always pleasant.

Not too far from the city center we walked by some lovely fall gardens.

Some prices here seems more expensive than in Italy and the people are more reserved – it’s an interesting contrast of cultures.

Tuesday we’ll fly from Ljubljana to Amsterdam and then on to Atlanta. We leave early and the hotel staff prepared a breakfast of croissants, apricot jam and fruit for us to take with us. We’ve had a great adventure and now we’re packed and ready to go. We’re excited to be heading home and look forward to catching up with family and friends. Hope to see you soon.

Ciao!
