Leaving Chioggia

Chioggia was a great place to be for a few days! We ate very well. Our last evening here we tried the seafood at a mom and pop style diner. The fried shrimp, calamari, and French fries were served in a paper boat handmade by the owner’s wife. As we were the only diners, after our meal, she showed us how she crafts the boats from brown paper. We think that the fish was so good because it was fresh from the seafood market nearby. If we were early risers, we could go to the market at four in the morning as boats bring fish to the market. But, we aren’t awake that early

Wandering along the canals of Chioggia in the evening is magical.

Evening in Chioggia

When we arrived in Chioggia it was raining, but as we left today, bright sunshine lit up the tower just outside our window.

Early Morning Chioggia

This morning we took the 10:17 bus from Chioggia to Padova – the ride was smooth and we arrived in Padua before noon. We were able to get into our apartment early which was great! The apartment is very spacious and more elegant than we’re used to. On trips like this we try find apartments for some of our stays and hotel rooms for others. I especially like this light fixture in the bathroom.

Italian Style

We’re staying near the university and the area is busy with students. We haven’t quite gotten our bearings here so we’ll spend more time tomorrow getting to know the city. For today, we’re taking it easy.
